Glasgow is a city bursting with life, energy, passion and personality.

Scotland’s largest city was named by National Geographic Traveler as one of the 20 ‘Best of the World destinations for 2016 and voted ‘World’s Friendliest City’ in a poll by travel bible Rough Guides. With such prestigious accolades, it’s no wonder that the city attracts millions of tourists annually, many of whom are attracted to Glasgow for the diverse year-round events and conference calendar.

Glasgow is one of the world’s premier conference destinations, with the city named the Best Convention Bureau in the UK in 2017 for a record-breaking 11th consecutive year.  It is with these credentials that the city has confirmed significant major conference business until 2022 and is bidding for new business as far out as 2026.

Furthermore, Glasgow enjoys an equally enviable reputation as one of the world’s great major events cities, hosting a year round programme of cultural events and festivals, as well as visiting events of great calibre.

Glasgow also has a fantastic track record in attracting and delivering some of the biggest global sporting championships, such as the ‘best ever’ Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the World Gymnastics Championship in 2015. Many significant events are planned for future years, including co-hosting the inaugural European Championships with Berlin in 2018, the European Indoor Athletics Championships in 2019 and one of 13 host cities for UEFA EURO 2020.

With such an amazing line-up of events, both past and future, it comes as no surprise that the city was named as one of the top five sporting cities in the world earlier this year, ahead of the likes of Rio, Sydney, Beijing, Paris, and Moscow. Glasgow’s rise up the global sports city rankings is a direct result of long-term investment in world-class facilities, as well as a commitment to increasing participation in sport and securing a lasting legacy for future generations.

One of Glasgow’s greatest strengths is the uniquely personal approach that the city employs when working with conference and events’ organisers – reflecting the ethos of the city’s award-winning PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand.
